The operating principle is quite simple:

In the closed state, the exhaust gases are directed through the muffler, as soon as the flap is open, a part goes through a continuous pipe, making the exhaust louder. The vacuum-controlled flap is closed in the vacuum range, then opens as the vacuum decreases or, in the case of turbo engines, goes into overpressure. A hose is laid from the intake manifold to the vacuum box of the flap or the flap is controlled via a remote control or switch. A solenoid valve is installed in the hose for this purpose.
